EMERGENCE is a deskbuilding roleplaying board game created in the latter half of 2023. The once peaceful EMERGENCE CITY is turned on its head after mysterious creatures called “Gleekers” suddenly break through the city surface. Players are challenged with working together as the “City Council” in order to complete missions, reach the end of the game board, and establish order between all residents.

EMERGENCE was imagined as a collaborative experience that forced players to navigate complex relationships and to get lost in the intensity of the game. I established the tongue-and-cheek tone of the cards in order to provide contrast with the malformed visual design. Further, I emphasized ridiculous situations that would both humor and spark debate amongst the players.

Over a period of 15 weeks, I worked closely with my co-writer and the design team to create over two-hundred cards of absurd situations the residents of EMERGENCE CITY find themselves in. Over time, these cards were edited down to the best 50 in order to create a concise experience.
